The Steady Decline of French When I read this article, it actually made me sad. As both a French and Spanish teacher, I have always been partial to French. I understand that people today feel it more necessary to learn Spanish, but I feel they are doing themselves a great disservice by discarding the language of many great writers, politicians, and let's not forget, lovers. Since I began teaching over twenty years ago, I have seen the enrollment in French classes dwindle. What can we do to revive interest in this beautiful tongue?

It can be useful, but just be careful to use "formal" language.

You don't have to remember all the Boolean or cryptic language and symbols, just a +, a -,or " ". The site shows you how to add the above terms together to further narrow your search. For those search engine users who need more, there are links to power searches.
espn I found this site using the "awesome library" engine. A weekly current event summary is a standing assignment in my class. Using awesome library, I was able to find current events from a variety of sites by beginning with the "kids" option and then narrowing that down to current events and then narrowing down to baseball and so on. Now I can refer them to this link because it has good, safe sites and links available. I also can tell them how to search more efficiently on the interenet than I could have before. I especially like this letter at the beginning of the site...Important note to parents and teachers: These sites, as far as we know, will not return sexually explicit, violent or hateful content. Evaluating Web Resources
Title
Description
Don't Trust Everything You Read This page will make you laugh, but in reality, it is a good example of unreliable information. It is important tht we teach our students that anyone can publish anything on the Web and that it is up to us to verify its reputation and value. I have seen with my own children tht they are all too eager to accept anything they find as truth. I printed this page and gave it to my students to see their reaction. You would be surprised at the number of kids who wanted so badly to believe it just because it looked authentic.
Evaluating Internet Sources This site has links for: Criteria for Evaluaiton Resources, Information Quality checklist, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and a tutorial.
Recources to Check Authority This is an on-line library catalog. It's purpose is to find books written by an author. Here you are able to verify the credibility of an author of a website or web article.
HSWG Information Quality This is a really good and practical site. YOu can type in the URL of a website you are evaluating. Then a list of questions pops up so you can evaluate the site. It is something that older students could actually be taught to do as they use the internet. THey could be taught to open up two windows at a time, then do the web evaluation. I like the simplicity of the tool when thinking of my students being able to become more aware of credible sites on the computer.
Examples of Good and Bad Websites This site provides students will the opportunity to actually see good and bad websites.

Selection Criteria of Websites with children in mind The page title I selected says it all. How can we educate our children to differentiate reliable information on the web from "garbage"?
