Welcome to the Link Share page of the Fall 2001 Teachers on the Net class. This class is sponsored by the Fulton County (Georgia) Staff Development office. Developed and taught by Matrix Magic, the Teachers on the Net class is offered almost every term.

Not every entry from the fall term is included here. Some entries could not be read, and as is often the case on the web, some entries have simply ceased to exist. This page is not be updated and so entries will continue to degrade.

Buddah txt I downloaded an apple and saved it under the file "My documents." I also downloaded some information concerning the net and the interconnected meshes.
Literacy and Technology This site has six sections focusing on the integration of curriculum & the internet. It includes education links, reference links, and technology links. 
The Crucible - the movie This is a good web site for 11th grade English teachers who are reading The Crucible. The site contains a list of the acotrs who played the major characters. Also included are several good movie stills.

Improving computer fluency with shortcuts This site shows one how to rely less on your mouse for commands. By using the control key+ a letter one can get the computer to cut, paste and etc. 
"Michael's Internet Finding Tips: Introduction" Michael Botos has created a handy how-to search list, including a list of eight myths about searching contrasted with reality tips to consider before making a search. 
Classroom exchange program This is a great website to use for a classroom exchange program. You can hook up with classrooms from around the world. 
Epals This safe and secure international website provides opportunities for students, teachers, and parents to exchange ideas and activities. It enhances/enriches learning through technology. 
"Welcome to Hertfordshire Schools Library Service" This British school library site introduces search engines and tools with many links to useful web sites and also a page on how to do a search.
Kidlink A site for students 10 to 15 years old and teachers who want to be involved in global dialogues through various activities and discussion formats.
Library Spot This site has different libraries, a reference desk, and a reading room with books, headlines, literary criticisms and much more.

Arthur Miller's The Crucible Fact or Fiction This is an EXCELLENT site about The Crucible. There is a discussion about what is true in the book and what Arthur Miller invented. This site will help you answer the many questions the students will have about the accuracy of The Crucible.
Penn State University This is the home page for Penn State. It also allows you to research information. When I typed in Roman games and hit search icon, it gave me websites to look up games for my World History class. It also gives you other information like how the weather is.
calendars I use this site to print out calendars. It also has a site to get free stuff.
Teaching resources This site has teacher resources, parent resources, a News Zone, and books for kids. 
Make Awards This page has a variety of specific awards you can make and personalize for your students. 
www.whitehousekids.gov This site includes Laura Bush's letter to our nation's children along with a variety of activities for becoming familiar with the White House. It's a great site! 
Peachstar This is the homepage for Peachstar which is the educational division of GA Public Broadcasting. This page lists most of the series of programs available through Peachstar and GPB. Very helpful for educators. 
Hotlist - Create your own This page has instructions for creating your own Hotlists for students to use at school and at home. 
webclass A great site! This site has review games for math and English. Try the "Who wants to be a millionaire" for English - we had fun 
yahooligans This is a website devoted to children. Students can research various topics of interest.

"Strategies for Teaching in MOOspaces" Start with the basics about MOOs at this website with answers to these questions: What is a MOO, Why MOO, and How do you teach in a MOO? 
"Classroom Clipart" Pictures always help communication. This site has links to a variety of clip art categories to help the classroom teacher. 
MOO Manners Guidelines Everything you need to know to use a MOO with the proper manners. It gives the rules of the game. This is probably a must for the teacher to learn before attempting to use a MOO in the classroom. 
Composition in Cyberspace This site tells how to use MOOS in English composition classes. This would work well with high school students and probably in an advanced 8th grade class. 
DU Rainbow Moo This virtual reality site provides tools for K-8 teachers who wish to teach their students by using the internet. It's colorful and quite resourceful. 
Welcome to the Miami Moo A website provided by the University of Miami. It lists good MOOmail commands. 
Moog the Moo Guide This interesting site is for beginners and those who might need a refresher course on moos. It gives definitions, references, etc. 
Educational Mud Lists A list of Educational Moos. They include AussieMoo to university Moo classes. 
Learning Circles This site talks about learning circles. They allow you to do theme-based projects across the curriculum with different teachers and classrooms. 
Teacher's tip sheet for MOOs The site will give you tips before using MOOs with your students. 
"List of MOOs" Learn about educational MOOs, Foreign Language and EFL/ESL MOOs, Social MOOs, Using MOOs, and various web pages and documents concerning MOOs.

"Video Book report talk show" Middle school language arts teachers can recharge book reports when students research authors in the media center and produce a video talk show about authors and their books. 
Book Review Forum This link gave book reviews written by students and teachers. This could be another way for a student to do a book report. Also, students can read what their peers think about a book. 
"Publishing Book Reviews" Middle school students produce book reviews and publish them on the Internet in a new twist on the conventional book report. 
Lesson plans - The Great Gatsby Here are lesson plans for The Great Gatsby. If you teach 11th grade English you probably already have lesson plans for this book, but try this for a new outlook on a great classic. 
Lesson plans - the Salem Witch Trials This is a good site for teaching The Crucible. Also included is a mini lesson for those who don't have time to read and teach the entire book. 
Multiple Intelligences in Early Childhood This site provides activities for young children in each developmental area. Each area has age appropriate activities with catchy titles such as , picture smart, music smart, nature smart, self smart, people smart, number smart, word smart, and body smart. Both general ed and special ed teachers would love this.

Education World This lesson plan will be useful for nutrition and exercise.

"KidsHealth" This helpful site gives not only general advice about health news topics, such as anthrax, but also gives information for middle school life science reports. 
Musical Vocabulary Links Teach vocabulary through the use of songs. Gives example with "Star Spangled Banner". 
Fun with Fragments Identify and correct sentence fragments using magazines. 
The Math Forum@Drexel This is a great website for Math lesson plans. 
Interactive: Street Drugs. This site is good for a lesson plan on street drugs. It will make the students aware of the bad effects of drugs. 
www.rhlschool.com This site has worksheets for all subject areas. 
"Bare Bones 101" If you or your middle or high school students are stumped in searching, study this lesson on "Basic Search Tips" to get re-charged. 
TeachersFirst An awesome resource for sites and lesson plans. I especially like being able to specify my grade level and subject area. I found numerous sites that would be very useful to me. The site is also very easy to navigate.

TeacherNet There were some great lessons and ideas for teaching reading. 
Carl Vinson Institute of Government This site is from the CVIOG at the University of GA. It has much information about GA history and govnt. as well as maps and data pertaining to the state of GA. Great resource and easy to navigate for both students and teachers. 
What's a Food Label Neat idea to teach the use of food labels and how it relates to the Food Guide Pyramid. The site allows students to practice creating balanced meals. 
Major Learning Activities(Human Karyotypes) This lessson is a great idea for my birth defect unit in Child Psychology. After studying birth defects from information gathered on the internet, students are paired then given certain traits. They will determine what the chances are according to dominant and recessive genes that a child produced with the traits given for each partner will have for example: blue eyes, dimples, freckles, straight hair or a long second toe. This practice will help them understand how recessive genes cause cystic fibrosis, PKU, muscular dystrophy. 
Georgia Stories This is a site loaded with primary source material for GA studies. Included are questions and answers for students and teachers. This website complements the GA Stories video series. Very helpful throughout the year. 
Teacher Vision Lesson Plans This site has many lesson plans to choose from ranging from games, printables and evne online activities to use in any classroom.

""U. S. Government Web Sites for Kids" Middle school students can locate a variety of appropriate websites through eighteen references ranging from "animals" to "transportation." 
Math.com  This site is a great tutorial for students to use together or to use on their own as a supplement. Covers a wide range of math topics and even offers quizzes for practice. 
Purdue OWL Resources and handouts on a wide variety of English subjects. 
Teacher Tools This site has a variety of games and worksheet builders. There is also a bulletin board for teachers. 
"The A-Z of Camels" This website helps seventh grade social studies students understand the role of the camel in Middle Eastern life. 
"ABC of Arabic Cuisine" This website helps seventh grade social studies students appreciate the hospitality of Arabic cooks through an alphabetical list of Middle Eastern foods. 
Stop Bullying This website has ways to deal with student harassments. 
Educational News This site has educational headlines from around the world. 
Plagiarism: What it is and How to Recognize and Avoid it This website is great for how to recognize and what to do when students plagiarize. 
Your Digestive System And How It Works This page tells how the digestive system works. It also explains why the digestive system is important and how the digestive process is controlled. 
National Wildlife Federation Kids Page A great kids page to learn about wildlife. 
Teachers@Random:The Witch of Blackbird Pond A reading guide to the Newberry Medal- winning novel. Gives summary and lessons for the teaching of it. 
Gothic horror cinema This is another good tie-in for the gothic short story writing assignment. Included are descriptions about movies with movie stills and book information. 
Online Asperger Syndrome Information and Support This is another site that gives information about asperger disorder. It was developed by Barbara L. Kirby at the University of Delaware. It, too,is good for teachers, parents and students. It gives current data, suggests books, and other links. 
Young Adult Librarian's Help/Homepage Contains links to journals, young adult literature, online resources, and websites for teens. 
Ideas from the Home Sewing Assoc A wonderful source of information concerning sewing on a national basis. 
Eduhound.com This site is for students and teachers. This site is loaded with links to sites on various topics. 
Inspiring Teachers This site is very helpful for new teachers. It has many interesting links from lesson plans to organizations to join. 
Carroll Lewis Home Page This link has a table of contents listing Carroll Lewis,the genuis, C.L studies and Fun Stuff. 
What is Asperger Syndrome? The National Autistic Society presents current information on asperger disorder. This site is a good one for teachers, parents, and others. 
Pearce Physics This website has authors that have physics quotes. Just hit the graphic of carroll lewis and ots of interesting things come up. 
Fun & Easy Sewing Projects for Teens This is a great source of ideas for projects for Clothing Design students. 

Evaluating Web Resources

Critical Evaluation Surveys I found this site to be very user friendly. The evaluation used good, thought-provoking questions. 
"Evaluating Information Found on the Internet" Authorship, the role and authority of the "publisher" of the site, the point of view, the referrral to other sources, the accuracy if the details, and the timeliness of the information are the six points anyone should use to evaluate an Internet site. An appropriate reference to the copyright law precedes the document. 
10C's for Evaluating Internet Sources Each one of the following was described in an easy to read format: content, credibility, critical thinking, copyright, citation, continuity, censorship, connectivity, comparability, context 
Language Arts Resources Language Arts links including Literature Online, Grammar/Spelling, Writing, Booklists, Poetry, and Authors. 
The Hall of Language Arts Resources for Language Arts teachers including literature, journalism, and composition. There are links to library resources and general resources listed by subject area. 
2001 Notable Children's Books Besides giving the criteria that makes a book notable, this site also offers a brief summary of each book. This is a reliable source because it is copyrighted by the Americam Library Association. 
Selection Criteria A kid friendly page explaining the criteria to look for in a good web site. 
Copyright with CyberBee Gives teachers links with copyright information. 
Internet Information Collection Form This is a good resource for students to use to collect and organize information from the internet. 
"Critical Evaluation of " Authorship, the role and authority of the "publisher" of the site, the point of view, the referrral to other sources, the accuracy if the details, and the timeliness of the information are the six points anyone should use to evaluate an Internet site. An appropriate reference to the copyright law precedes the document. 
Critically Anlayzing Information Sources This is a good site to learn how to critically analyze and information source. Included are ways to analyze the author, publication date, the publisher and content analysis. 
five criteria for evaluating Web pages This site gives you a chart for evaluating a web page. The chart includes five criteria:Accuracy, Authority, Objectivity, Currency, and Coverage. 
Meridian: A Middle School Technologies Journal This site was very helpful. I like the use of rubrics to evaluate the site and projects of students 
researchpaper.com This site gives ideas and assistance for research papers. 
Avoiding plagarism Many students don't totally understand plagarism, and this site might help them. 
Evaluating Websites for Educational Uses: Bibliography and Checklist This website can be used by media specialists and others who use the internet. This resource guide provides the reader with a checklist and suggested questions that should be asked when choosing/evaluating a site. There are articles written by a variety of professionals. They,too, list questions. These articles were written from 1996-2001.
